DESIGN TEAM
With a staff including architects and construction managers, Shaw and Rouse Architects performs a broad range of professional services catering to the constructed environment with a reputation for working on difficult, technically dense projects and bringing them to a successful, timely and budget-friendly conclusion.
Principal Architect
Mr. Shaw is a third generation architect, grandson of the original firm's founder and father of our firm's co-founder. He possesses extensive experience in design, project management, contract document preparation and construction administration for projects ranging in sizes from very small to in excess of 15 million dollars. During 50 years of continuous practice, office planning and structures has been a major portion of his focus.
After graduating from Georgia Tech in 1970, Mr. Shaw worked for architectural firms in Columbus, Mississippi and Brunswick Georgia. In 1977, Mr. Shaw took over the practice of Shaw and Associates following his father’s death and has continued to direct the firm since that time. During his status as principal architect, Mr. Shaw has been project architect for a wide range of projects, and project types and has worked with an array of clients in MS and the Southeastern U.S. Mr. Shaw is also a Certified Asbestos Inspector and Management/Planner.
President
Mrs. Rouse received her bachelor degree in architecture from LSU in 2004 and is the fourth generation architect in her family. In partnership with her father, Mrs. Rouse expanded their family’s century long legacy with the opening of their Western North Carolina area architecture firm in February 2017. Prior to this joint venture, she worked on-site and remotely for her father, as well as other design-related firms, for 13 years.
During her productive career, Mrs. Rouse has continued to enjoy the opportunity to work on a variety of public and private projects and has provided architectural services for state and local clientele including the Mississippi State Port Authority, the Harrison County School District, the Macon County School District, and the Mississippi Army National Guard.
In addition to operating her NC architecture firm, Mrs. Rouse attends graduate school at North Carolina State University where she is pursuing her Master's degree in Education.
Construction Manager
A graduate from LSU in construction management, Michael has over 15 years employed as a construction management consultant for Mr. Shaw and Mrs. Rouse and has maintained an active role since 2005 when he began preparing damage estimates for clients following Hurricane Katrina. His responsibilities quickly evolved into performing additional construction services, including the renovation of a U.S. Congressman's district office located in downtown Gulfport, MS, during the immediate aftermath of the devastating storm.
Prior to Hurricane Katrina, Mr. Rouse, was employed with W.C. Fore Trucking, Inc. where he was involved in a variety of marine construction projects including an expansion project at the Port of Gulfport and the Biloxi Schooner Pier. Additionally, Mr. Rouse has a broad range of experience in site and road construction where he has performed project management and estimating services for several civil, utilities and asphalt contractors in the South MS and Western NC area.
